Obituary for Martha Jane Price-Darr PhD

Dr. Martha Jane Price-Darr, 48, of Edwardsville, Illinois, and formerly of Oblong, Illinois, passed away, Tuesday, January 29, 2019, in Godfrey, Illinois.

Born in Mattoon, Illinois, April 20, 1970, she was the daughter of Allen R. Price, and Paula Jane Puntney. Martha is survived by her husband, Matthew Darr, whom she married, June 13, 2008; step-sons, Jacob (fiance Emily) Darr, of Alton, and Nicholas Darr, of Edwardsville, Illinois; her father, Allen and Mary Beth Price, Oblong, Illinois; her mother, Paula Puntney-Price, Carmi, Illinois; nieces, Regan Mallory Price-Synders, Paige Synders; nephews, Dylan, Clayton, and Parker Synders, all of Edwardsville, Illinois; aunt, Mary Craig Puntney-Lowry, St. Louis, Missouri; uncle, Dan and Carolyn Price, Norris City, Illinios; cousins, Derek Price, Norris City, Illinois, and Kimberly Price, Redondo Beach, California.

Martha was preceded in death, by her beloved brother, Jamie Price; grandparents, Jim and Reva Price, Paul and Patricia Puntney.

Martha has taught Family and Consumer Science classes for Jr. High, High School Political Science classes, and in recent years, college and career readiness classes. Martha was employed by Alton Community School District #11, for approximately twenty years. She loved her students, and helping them learn to become independent.

Martha was always an organizer, and planner of details. She began her professional career, as early as high school, by becoming active in Future Homemakers of America, and making her way to become State President of the organization. While attending college, Martha served as Vice President, and then as President of Student Body. She received her undergraduate degree in teaching, while attending Eastern Illinois University at Charleston, Illinois. She continued her education for Master’s Degree at Illinois State University, Bloomington/ Normal, Illinois. She completed her education, by receiving her Doctoral Degree at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Illinois.

Martha enjoyed spending weekends by scrapbooking with close friends she made while in college. She especially loved spending time with her niece, and her niece’s siblings. She loved family and friends, flowers, decorating, crafting, reading, and spring vacation.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2019, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Edwardsville, Illinois. A memorial mass will immediately follow the visitation.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Martha Jane Price Scholarship fund, to be awarded to a student attending his/her first year of college, next year.
