Obituary for Melvin J. Haarmann

Melvin J. Haarmann, age 85, of Edwardsville, passed away peacefully at 1:55 p.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at his residence.
He was born May 28, 1933 in Florissant, MO, the son of the late Harry and Helen (Niehoff) Haarmann. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters: Marge (Leonard) Ebbesmeyer, Bernard (Hilda) Haarmann, Brother George Haarmann, S.M., Anna (Bernard) Goeke, Sister Rita Marie Haarmann, CPPS, Hildegarde (Lawrence) Moellering, Ray (Norma) Haarmann, Henry “Hank” Haarmann, Lambert Haarmann, and Al Haarmann.

Suriving are his wife, Marlene (Neustadt) Haarmann, whom he married November 29, 1958 in Florissant, MO; two children: Pamela (Rick) Seger of St. Jacob, IL and Catherine (Doug) Ehlert of Huntsville, AL; four grandchildren: Erick (Sara) Seger of St. Jacob, Melissa Seger of Tomball, TX, Courtney (Russell) Stephens of Huntsville, AL, and Abigail Ehlert of Huntsville, AL; two great-grandchildren: Holden and Bennett Seger; one brother-in-law, Melvin (Janet) Neustadt of W. Alton, MO; and three sisters-in-law: Helen Haarmann of Alhambra, IL, Dolores Haarmann of Florissant, MO and Bunny Neustadt of Florissant, MO.

Melvin was a self-employed farmer all his life. For a time, he was a mechanic for the John Deere dealership in Troy, Missouri. He was also the Sexton of St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hawk Point, Missouri. After moving to Edwardsville, he became the Sexton of St. Boniface Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Heartland Hospice or to the Alzheimers Association.

Visitation will be from 3-6:30 p.m. Monday, November 5, 2018 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Edwardsville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, November 5, 2018 at the church with Rev. Jeffrey Goeckner and Deacon Dan Corbett officiating. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2018 in St. Mary's Cemetery in Hawk Point, MO.
