Obituary for Janet J. Santel (Schrage)

Janet J. Santel, age 76, of Damiansville, passed away at 12:46 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2019, surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born January 2, 1943 in New Baden, the daughter of the late Eugene and Helen (Zeisset) Schrage. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred “Shorty” Santel, whom she married February 6, 1970 and who passed away April 18, 2013.
Janet is survived by her children: Zina (Bob) Maurer of Alhambra, Douglas (Joni) Dorff of Carlyle, Jolene (Gary) Meyer of New Baden and Tammy (Ed) Vosholler of Troy; ten grandchildren: Brooke (Adam) Krey, Erica, and Ryan Maurer, Elyse, Evan and Ethan Dorff, Hannah (Calvin) and Haley Meyer, and Connor and Tanner Vosholler; one sister, Joan (Maurice) Fiedler of Chicago; and her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Robert (Ellarine) Santel of Damiansville, Delores (the late Jerome) Varel of Bartelso, Bernadine (the late Ralph) Koopman of Damiansville, Esther (the late Ollie) Santel of Iowa and Diane (Gene) Masterson of Damiansville.
Mrs. Santel was a member of St. Damian’s Catholic Church in Damiansville and the Albers American Legion Auxiliary. She retired as a correctional officer for the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department and was a bartender at Fuehne’s Tavern in Damiansville for many years prior. She enjoyed playing bingo, and sharing her wonderful baked goods with her family and friends, having her grandkids visit and was an avid UK Wildcats fan with her aunt Stella.
A private service will be held at Kalmer Memorial Services in Lebanon. Burial will be at St. Damian’s Cemetery in Damiansville. Memorial contributions may be given to the Albers American Legion Auxiliary, St. Lukes Hospital or to the family.
