Obituary for Mary Charlotte Harper (Prosser)

Mary C. Harper, age 83, of Swansea, formerly of Breese, passed away at 12:50 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Mercy Rehabilitation and Care Center in Swansea.

She was born March 7, 1935 in East St. Louis, the daughter of the late John and Charlotte “Lottie” (Andrzejewski) Prosser. She married John Harper June 18, 1955 in East St. Louis. He preceded her in death.

Besides her husband and parents, Mary was preceded by her step-mother, Anne Prosser; step-brother, Thomas Volkman; her daughter-in-law Mary Agnes (Potthast) Harper, grandchildren Micah Zinn and Christopher Harper.

She is survived by her children: Larry (Colleen) Harper of Aviston, Anna (David) Henrichs of Highland, Thomas (Mary Jean) Harper of St. Rose, Lorraine Harper Cange of Saint Louis, MO, John (Sherry) Harper of Fenton, MO, James (Christine) Harper of Tucson, AZ, Tricia(John) O’Connell of Edwardsville and Susan (Robert) Zinn of Breese; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and her sisters: Carolyn (John) McCoy of Belleville, Patricia (Charlie) Pelo of Edwardsville and Christine (Joe) Gomez of Germantown.

Mrs. Harper was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her love for family was her greatest attribute. Her kindness toward others will never be forgotten by those she knew.

According to her wishes, her remains will be cremated. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Belleville. Interment will be private.

A celebration of Mary’s life will take place at High Mount School in Swansea, on Saturday, December 8, 2018 from 12:00pm to 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Mary’s name to a charity of your choice.
