Obituary for Maryann "Mimi" Johnson (Welshans)

Maryann “Mimi” Johnson, age 68, of Worden, IL, died Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

She was born September 14, 1950 in Red Bud, IL, the daughter of the late Marshall and Mildred (Fortney) Welshans. She married Gary Johnson December 26, 1970. He survives.

Besides her husband, Mimi is survived by three children: Robin Johnson of Glen Carbon, Tara Johnson of Glen Carbon and Seth (Elizabeth “Betsy” Johnson of Worden; four grandchildren: Drew Johnson, Persia Cousett, Charlee Johnson and August Johnson; two step-grandchildren: Daphne Slade and Noah Slade; three sisters: Judy (Don) Owens of Franklin, KY, Sue (Henry) Hartmann of Sparta, IL and Linda (Wayne) Buls of San Antonio, TX; two brothers-in-law: Rob (Karen) Johnson of Bloomington, IN and Kent (Neila) Johnson of Jackson, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews.

Mimi was a graduate of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She spent the majority of her career teaching pre-school, and was a long-time employee of Kids Club Child Development Center in Edwardsville. She was deeply loved and respected by her peers for her hard work and her kindness toward the children and her co-workers.

Visitation will be from 12 noon – 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Edwardsville, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 with Rev. John Shank, Pastor, officiating. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Assn.
